EDITORIAL: Are The Police Discriminating?

THE STATESMAN reports that, following ex-President Rawlings declaration on June 4, 2003 that he knew the names of 15 NPP government officials who were behind the serial killings of 34 women in Accra, it was imperative for the police to interview him.

The paper says the police should be informed that Rawlings has ceased to be the head of state and is now an ordinary citizen like anybody else and as such should be subjected to section 17 of the 1992 Constitution which states that, “All persons shall be equal before the law.

According to the paper, since Rawlings is now an ordinary citizen the police was wrong in wasting the states resources to buy fuel for the cars and driven in a convoy to interview him.
