President Kufuor and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been having a difficult time these past few months trying to explain certain acts of omission/commission. No need to tabulate the instances here.
Ironically, leading the charge have been some NPP members and sympathisers. Some of the sharpest critics and critiques have come from within the NPP. Even ADM with its publicly stated pro liberal democratic NPP stance felt that some of the issues could have been handled differently.
But that's not a bad thing. That's actually one of the strengths of the party. It is not only the resolve of the president that's being tested but also the cohesion of the party.
We feel that friend and foe alike have had their say and would no doubt continue having their say but it is now time for the NPP to rally and look ahead.
Certain international expressions of solidarity for Ghana mean that things are looking up and we cannot tarry.
This is the time for the NPP to seize the initiative and spur the country on. The President himself, government ministers, other operatives and the party leadership must now work in concert to provide the new leadership, which the new opportunities clearly demand.
How can you have 100% debt write-off and behave in a business-as-usual manner? No way! New ideas and new ways of doing things must be introduced. Nothing short of a renaissance is required here. Time therefore to rally!
