Accra, March 3, GNA- The Egle Party has stated that it would not go to congress on Saturday, March 6, 2004 as allegedly propagated.

It said the period is "Ghana's Independence Commemoration Day which every citizen is constitutionally obliged to observe.

In a Press Release signed by Alhaji Alhassan Bene, General Secretary of the party and issued in Accra on Wednesday, in reaction to a statement allegedly made by Mr Dan Lartey, flag-bearer of the Great Consolidated Party (GCPP) on Radio Gold to the effect that the Eagle Party would go to congress on that day.

It added that the entire Executive " is unaware of any programme aimed at going to Congress on the 6th of March 2004".

This alone testifies eloquently to the fallacy of the statement made "by no mean a personality than Mr Dan Lartey, an aspiring President of the Republic of Ghana".

The release said the structures of the party in the regions are seriously being activated to enable the delegate conference to take place from the constituency level upward to the national level as soon as practicable.

It said the internal organization of all political parties is bound to conform to democratic principles established by the Constitution of Ghana, which the Eagle Party would not depart from.
