EP Church, Ghana, to organise mass burial for accident victims

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, (Trinity Parish) Madina, on Thursday announced that it would organise a mass burial on Saturday March 15 for eight out of the 14 members of the church who lost their lives in a motor accident.

The deceased persons were among other church members, who were on their way from Akpafu-Todzi in the Volta Region on February 15 where they had gone to attend the burial of a church member.

A release signed in Accra by the Reverend W. R. Sakoe, Pastor-in-charge of the Trinity Parish, said the burial and thanksgiving service would be held at the Number One Park at Madina in Accra.

It mentioned the deceased persons as: John Kwaku Ababio, Evans Kwaku Gala, Fridoline Kudzo Agbeme, Grace Afua Kpodo and Emmanuel Tsey Adika.

The rest are Mrs Joyce Adzo Wuako-Ahiable, Ms Joyce Mawuena Simpi and Ms Bernice Akosua Boachie.

The release said the remaining victims: Mr and Mrs C. K. Adom of Hohoe, George Ovulley of Vane-Avetime, Mrs Patience Dzide of Kpando and Johnson Korkor of Sovie, all in the Volta Region and the driver's mate of Accra, Charles Adjei would be buried in their respective home towns.

Meanwhile, the church has appealed to individuals, churches, organisations, non-governmental organisations and other institutions for financial assistance to care for the 24 injured persons still receiving treatment at various hospitals.

The assistance would also enable the church to cater for the children of victims of the tragic event.

The church said all assistance should be channelled to the EP Church Disaster Fund account, which was recently launched by the Moderator of the Church.

Mr Paul Osei, 36, driver of the vehicle, said he lost control of the vehicle at a curve and hit the side of the road while descending a steep slope leading to Akpafu-Mempeasem.
