Former Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampam, Enoch Teye Mensah has withdrawn from the Council of State elections.
In a letter addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission and signed by E.T Mensah who was contesting for a slot in the region, the decision to withdraw from the race is personal.
This comes on the back of some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) protest against his bid as they thought he was contesting to spite the party after he was defeated by his one-time protege, Sam George Nettey during the party’s Parliamentary primaries.
He rebutted that those fighting his election onto the Council of State position would not if they understood the nuances of the democratic dispensation.
“An action by the Ga-Dangme Concerned Youth Group (GDCYG) to stand against my bid for a seat at the Council of State is a move by some faceless individuals who want to spoil the beauty of our democracy,” he said on Kasapa FM.
Adding, “I’ve done a wider-consultation on this and I have a massive endorsement on it, so there is no place for Ga-Dangme youth or whatever. They should give us a break!”
Earlier, Ningo-Prampam MP, Sam George Nartey, wished ET Mensah the very best in the election scheduled to be held across the nation today, Thursday, February 16.
Ten representatives expected to be elected will join the appointed and ex-officio members to counsel President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as per Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution.
