Eagle Party to Contest 2004 Prez Poll

The Eagle party has reiterated that it will put up candidates to contest the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Chairman of Council of Elders, Mr Danny Ofori-Atta, noted that the party is making frantic preparations to organise its constituency and regional congresses. He said this when the party fed 300 destitute and handicapped persons in Accra. Mr Ofori Atta said the party will officially re-launch its programme of activities leading to the next general elections.

He refuted allegations that the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Obed Asamoah, is financing the party’s activities. Mr Ofori-Atta called on Ghanaians to keep an open eye ad identify selfless people amongst the contestants for the 2004 elections. The Eagle leading member said it is unfortunate that the Scottish award given to former President Jerry John Rawlings for maintaining stability in the country and undertaken pragmatic measures to restructure the economy has been played down by a section of the Ghanaian society.

He added that the media is rather focusing on the little negative comments be has been making and fuelling tension in the country. Mr Ofori-Atta called on Ghanaians to recognise the good works of past leaders.
