Takoradi, April 24, GNA- The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs would soon launch an Early Childhood Development Policy to guide teachers in their efforts to lay sound foundation for pre-school children in the country.
Mrs Gladys Asmah, the sector Minister announced this when she presented a cheque for ten million cedis to the Council for International Programmes Nursery School in Takoradi on Friday. The Minister who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi said the amount, which is part of her share of the MPs common fund would be used to procure furniture and teaching aids to enhance the work of teachers of the school.
Mrs. Asmah said the Government would continue to give priority attention to quality education by improving facilities as well as providing books and incentives to achieve this objective. She said it is in this connection that 80 per cent of her share of the common fund had gone into the provision of facilities to improve teaching and learning in her constituency.
The Minister urged parents to give their children the best education that would make them useful to their society in future and the country as a whole.
Madam Sophia Prah, Proprietor of the School thanked Mrs Asmah for fulfilling her promise to the school and said the money would be used for the purpose for which it was donated. She appealed for additional support to establish a library to cultivate the habit of reading among the children. 24 April 04
