East Legon Accident: Watch sad moment body of Maame Dwomoh Boaten was carried away for private burial

The family of Maame Dwomo Baah has received her mortal remains from the police for a private burial today, Saturday, October 19, 2024, exactly one week after the tragic accident occurred.

In a video posted by TV3 and sighted by GhanaWeb, family members and sympathizers gathered at the premises in their numbers where the body of the late Maame Dwomoh Boaten was being held, amid tears and mourning.

The tragic accident has left the families of both deceased girls and the entire Ghanaian community in a state of mourning.

Candlelight vigil

Families, friends, and the East Legon community gathered on Friday, October 18, 2024, to hold a solemn vigil in memory of Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, two young girls who tragically lost their lives in a car accident on October 12.

The girls, both students at Cornerstone International Academy, were honored in an emotional ceremony at the site of the accident.

The vigil featured prayers and heartfelt tributes from family, friends and schoolmates who stood in silent reflection, holding candles and flowers to mourn the devastating loss.

The vigil climaxed with an emotional flower-laying session which brought tears to the eyes of many.

Accident

The tragic accident occurred on October 12, 2024, when 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, lost control of a Jaguar SUV (GN 7801-20) and collided with a 4×4 Acura vehicle (GR 2542-23) driven by Joseph Ackah.

The collision caused both vehicles to catch fire, resulting in the occupants of the Acura being burned beyond recognition.

Arrests and Bail

Bishop Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha Amoako, and Linda Bempah, a sales assistant were arrested and charged with permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

The High Court in Accra on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, granted bail of ¢50,000 each to Bishop Salifu Amoako, his wife, Mouha Amoako, and Linda Bempah following their arrest on October 15.

Amoako’s apology

Bishop Salifu Amoako on October 18, 2024, issued a heartfelt apology to the families of two girls who tragically lost their lives in an accident in East Legon.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb, the man of God, whose son was involved in the incident, asked for forgiveness and expressed deep remorse for the tragic event.

He explained that he has been struggling to come to terms with what happened and requested mercy from the families.

“I, Salifu Amoako, would like to appeal to the families to forgive me and have mercy on me. I ask that God comforts you in this difficult time and I pray that he strengthens you.

“I also want to appeal to Ghanaians and Pastors based both in Ghana and beyond to help me plead with the bereaved families. I can’t explain myself because I’m still trying to understand how the whole incident happened. I have lost all my strength from crying. I’m begging the entire families to have comfort in God. Mother of the deceased children, be strong,” Bishop Amoako said amid tears while on his knees.
