Eastern Region Fire Service inaugurates Women Fire Cadet Corps

Koforidua, April 18, GNA - The Eastern Regional Ghana National Fire Service has inaugurated an all women Fire Cadet Corps at the Presbyterian Women's College of Education (PWCE) at Aburi. Forty-seven women studying education at the college passed out after three weeks of training organized for them by some fire officers in the region.

Ms Grace Manubea Ansah, the Acting Principal of the college, said women came into contact with fire a lot and that it was a step in the right direction seeing women passing out as fire cadet officers. "With this training, I know these ladies are going to be apostles and agents of the safe use of fire. They will educate the children they teach, their households, their communities and the people at large," she said.

The Divisional Officer Grade One Bartholomew Kofi Nketsiah said the PWCE was the first tertiary institution to benefit from the programme in the region and commended the school management for 93this success story and I hope it will be emulated by all schools." Mr Omar Hamadu, the Akuapem North Municipal Co-ordinator, entreated the cadet corps to remain dedicated, devoted and committed to the task of propagating fire safety in the country.
