The Akyem – Kyebi Zongo youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party on Thursday, October 30 stormed the Abuakwa South Constituency office in the East Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region in a Rambo style to discipline their constituency executives. This has brought a total disarray and state of labour to the regional branch of the ruling NDC Party.
Information gathered revealed that, the executives who were at the office at the time of the incident took to their heels upon seeing the irate youth advancing to the office before they could pounce on them.
The charged youth who claimed to have been deceived by the constituency executives and the party, in the process vandalized the office equipment, louver blades, doors, plastic chairs and other items running into thousands of Ghana cedis belonging to the party.
The leader of the group who spoke in an interviewed on a condition of anonymity said, leadership of the party promised them of getting them recruited to the various security agencies prior to the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to him, barely two years down the line, none of his friends who were used for various activities during the said election has been recruited to any of the security agencies; hence the action since all effort to hear from the party has failed.
The Kyebi Zongo as at the time of filing this report has turned a ghost town as the youth in the area have ran into hiding following the instruction to the police by of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for East Akyem Assembly to arrest them.
In a swift response, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for East Akyem Assembly within which the constituency falls Hon. Simon Asirifi has ordered the police to immediately bring the youth who took part in the vandalizing to book.
All attempts to speak to any of the constituency executives were unsuccessful as none of them was ready to speak to the issue.
Even though the Constituency chairman of the area Alhaji Adamu confirmed the incident when contacted he declined to speak to it as he asked this reporter to speak to the Secretary, the latter phone was off when trying to reach him.
Meanwhile, the regional secretary of the party, Mr. Anthony Gyampo, in an interviewed has called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest all those connected to the incident to let them face the law and serve as a lesson to other members of the party that they cannot take the law into their hands.
In a related development, the Eastern Regional Vice chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Samuel Kwaku Adjei affectionately known as Abigi has been involved in a fatal accident.
According to the report, the NDC guru was traveling in the early hours of Thursday to Akwadum near Koforidua in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region to ask delegates to append their signatures on his nomination form to seek a second term of office.
Eye witness account indicated that, his luxurious Toyota FJ cruiser with registration number GN 2276 Y which he was travelling with flip flop severally when in an attempt to preventing his vehicle from running into an obstacle.
He sustained various degrees of injuries and was first rushed to the Koforidua regional hospital responding to treatment but since being transfer to 37 Military Hospital in Accra for further treatment at the time of filing this report.
