The Medical Superintendent of the Ada East District Hospital, Dr Philip Narh, has advised the public to exercise regularly and eat naturally prepared foods to increase their chances of living a healthy long life.

Dr Narh revealed that canned foods and fast foods mostly led to health complications.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he also disclosed that use of preservatives and spices increased blood pressure, noting that it was for that reason that hospitals disallowed the use of such spices in patients’ foods.

According to Dr Narh eating late at night has become a major challenge to most Ghanaians as many workers closed late, forcing them to eat late.

He urged such persons to eat something light to sustain them till the next morning to prevent contracting non-communicable diseases.

“I exercise a lot; I always make sure that I exercise every day. I don’t eat canned food; any food preserved or spiced is a no-go for me because they have health complications on the body,” he said.

He expressed worry over people’s reluctance to follow the advice of medical officers as a preventive measure and only accept such directions when they were in critical conditions, noting that such persons go back to their bad health habits after recovering.

Dr Narh urged the public to take serious consideration of the food they consume, stating that such considerations would go a long way to reduce sicknesses and mortalities.
