Ebola awareness campaign for coastal belt

Twenty-four communities around the coastal belt of the Gomoa West District of the Central Region, have been selected for special public educational programmme on the Ebola viral disease.

Mr Justice Peter Ansah, Gomoa West and Gomoa East District Organiser of Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) made this known when he met with chiefs and stakeholders at Gomoa-Kokoful town to discuss vital health issues.

He said the programme was initiated by GRCS.

Mr Ansah mentioned Gomoa Mankoadze, Ablekum, Apam, Manford, Dego, Ankamu, Hweda, Dwama, Amanful and Gomoa-Obir, as some of the communities to benefit from the programme.

He said the meeting discussed with the opinion leaders important matters like sound environmental and domestic hygiene, proper hand washing habit before eating, and disaster management.

He appealed to teachers to intensify their education on environmental and domestic hygiene, particularly hand washing among school children to protect them against communicable diseases.

Mr Ansah said sound environmental and domestic hygiene play an indispensable role in the maintenance of good health without that no meaningful contributions would be made towards national development.

Nana Kwaakwa Pentsil VII, Gomoa-Kokofulhene gave the assurance that the National Executives of GRCS that chiefs in the two Gomoa Districts would co-operate with members of the society to implement all health improvement programmes in the area to better the health status of the people.

Nana Kwaakwa Pentsil suggested the appointment of special community sanitation improvement committees in every community to educate the people on monthly basis.
