Accra, Feb. 28, GNA - Professor Mike Oquaye, Minister of Energy, said on Monday that there was the need to economise the use of fuel to enable the country to have reserves when in crisis. Prof Oquaye, who was speaking to the GNA in an interview, said

Ghana depended solely on fuel importation and any action by the fuel producing countries could affect the country directly or indirectly. "People must travel more economically; that is why the Government is bringing more of the mass transport into the country," he said, adding: "The mass transport buses are related directly to the use of fuel." Explaining, the Energy Minister said people who used mass transportation could save money instead of using their own vehicles. He expressed support for people who were of the view that Government officials should set examples by economising the use fuel.

Professor Oquaye said the Ministry would promote the use of energy saving bulbs and would make it unlawful, with time, for people to use non-energy saving bulbs. "These will go a long way to reduce the use of fuel in the country and create reserves for the country in times of crises," he said.
