Educate church members on coronavirus today – The Church of Pentecost 'orders' pastors

In a bid to intensify public education on the global pandemic, coronavirus, The Church of Pentecost has set today, March 15, 2020, to educate its members on the preventive measures to fight the ‘monster’.

According to the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost Ghana, Eric Nyamekye, it was prudent for all assemblies to allow its congregants observe basic preventive behaviours such as avoiding handshakes, washing their hands regularly, using alcohol-based sanitizers, among others.

Also, members are being encouraged to make use of hand sanitizing dispensers at vantage points including lavatories within the church premises to avoid contracting the disease.

Mr Nyamekye also called on church officials and ministers to minimize church and congregational practices that require waving of handkerchiefs and hugging.

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, Ghana confirmed its first two cases of coronavirus after the infected persons arrived in the country from Norway and Turkey.

The patients are currently being handled in one of the existing treatment centers but are said to be stable.

In a televised announcement by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he directed finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to make available the cedi equivalent of $100 million to enhance Ghana’s coronavirus preparedness and response plan.

This amount, according to the president “is to fund expansion of infrastructure, purchase of materials and equipment, and public education.”
