Middle Belt Coordinator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Campaign, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, has engaged student journalists at OTEC School of Journalism and Communication, discussing plans by NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to end galamsey.

Dr. Afriye, on Friday, October 25, 2024, called on the students who were being trained for the 2024 elections.

He used the opportunity to discuss NPP’s plans for the country, including measures to combat illegal mining.

As the Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, Dr. Afriye revealed that NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has outlined practical solutions to address the galamsey menace. He noted that Dr. Bawumia’s approach emphasizes dialogue over force, acknowledging the limitations of previous governments’ strategies.

According to the MP, Dr. Bawumia’s plan includes facilitating easy access to mining licenses and implementing routine monitoring to prevent illegal activities.

This multi-faceted approach aims to address the root causes of galamsey and provide sustainable livelihoods for affected communities.

Dr. Afriye urged the students to support the NPP, emphasizing the party’s commitment to good governance.

He cautioned against misinformation, encouraging critical thinking and scrutiny of claims that the NPP government is tolerating illegal mining due to pending elections.
