Egypt has offered to assist Ghana in her gas distribution system.This was disclosed when the Egyptian Ambassador, Mr. Monerin Talaat, held bilateral talks with the Minister for Energy, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom last week in Accra.
Mr. Talaat said that Egypt would assist with its experience in the oil and gas sector as well as offer technical assistance. He said, “Egypt also intends to support the setting up of an electricity meter manufacturing facility in Ghana”.
Both parties agreed to co-operate in the energy sector and deepen the economic relationship between the two countries as well as offer direct investment.
At a similar meeting with Dr. Nduom, the US Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Mary Catlin Yates, discussed issues on the future activities in the power sector.
The Minister, Dr. Nduom assured the ambassador of government’s determination to overcome the present economic challenges in order to improve the social and economic conditions of Ghanaians.
The meeting also highlighted the current development on the West African Gas Pipeline Project and the extent to which both governments could cooperate in order to enable Ghana achieve its objective.
Present at the meeting was the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs at the US State Department, Mrs. Pamela E. Bridgewater.
