Wa, Sept. 25, GNA - Dr Emad El Dien El Kanawi, an Egyptian Consultant Surgeon, on Saturday, presented medical equipment valued at 34 million cedis to the Islamic Clinic at Wa.

The equipment included an Eccho Cardiography (ECG) - a device for diagnosing heart diseases and a Diathermy, an Autoclave and an Air-Conditioner for surgical operations.

Dr. El Kenawi, who is an expatriate director of the Clinic, said the donation was his personal contribution towards upgrading facilities at the clinic.

He said the Clinic now had a proper functioning laboratory and with the addition of the equipment, surgical operations could be undertaken there without any form of assistance from the Government Hospital at Wa. The Clinic was set up in 1999 by the Jam'atu Al-Hidayatu Islamiat an Islamic Organization based in Wa, to help reduce the pressure on facilities at the Government Hospital by offering affordable medical services to the Wa community.

Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Ibraihim, Chairman of the Organization, who received the equipment, said Islamic teaching enjoined all adherents of the Religion to contribute their quota towards the physical and spiritual development of the people.

He commended Dr El Kenawi for the invaluable services he was rendering to the people of Wa and the Upper west Region in general. Alhaji Abdul-Rahman said upgrading facilities at the Clinic would go a long way to complement government's efforts at providing adequate health facilities for all its citizens.
