In an important stakeholder engagement preceding the Strategic ESG and Sustainability Impact Summit 2024 (SESI 24), His Majesty Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, Paramount Chief of Assin Kushea and President of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Council, expressed his support for the upcoming SESI 24 event scheduled to take place at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
During the engagement with the event organizers, the revered traditional leader shared enlightening perspectives on Ghana's development trajectory and the urgent need for sustainable practices. He emphasized the importance of long-term planning and responsible resource management, drawing parallels between Ghana's past and the rapid development of countries like China, which have successfully established future-ready cities while Ghana continues to grapple with fragmented projects.
His Majesty shared his personal reflections on Assin Kushea’s environmental history, highlighting the loss of natural resources, such as wildlife, due to unintentional overexploitation. “I came here when I was 40, and there was a forest teeming with animals. But we have consumed all the animals, not realizing we needed them,” he stated.
He lamented the need for a more forward-thinking approach to development. However, he expressed optimism, stating, "With ideas like SESI 24, there is still hope."
His Majesty also highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts between traditional leaders, government, and the private sector in driving sustainable development, and the role of individual responsibility in fostering a sustainable future.
His Majesty also accepted the invitation as the guest speaker at SESI 24, where he will share his wisdom and insights on sustainability and traditional leadership. The event, to be held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on November 13-14, is expected to draw diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, business leaders, and sustainability experts.
In his concluding remarks, His Majesty urged everyone, stating, “Even in our pursuits for a sustainable Ghana, let us also not forget to preach peace to our family, friends, and everyone around us.”
