Eight NPP members to contest Gomoa West Primaries

Gomoa Tarkwa (C/R) July 5, GNA- The Gomoa West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received applications from eight members including two females to contest the primaries for the selection of parliamentary candidate for 2004. They are Ms Sarah Naana Arthur, 49, an Administrator at the office of the Greater Accra Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr John Manford Tawiah, 42, an Agronomist at the Center for Scientific for Industrial Research (CSIR), Mr Alexander Kojo Abban, 30, Law Student, Mr Adu Nyakoh-Andoful, 36, a Broadcaster.

Others are Mr Joe Kingsley Hackman, 48, lecturer and construction consultant at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr Oscar Mensah, 48, Administrator at the Ministry Food and Agriculture MOFA), Mr Fred Oscar Abban, 49, educationist and Ms Joyce Aidoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa.

Mr Benjamin Adjei-Afful, Gomoa West constituency chairman of the party told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Saturday at Gomoa Tarkwa that two of the contestants have paid five million cedis each as the prescribed fees for each contestant in bank draft to the constituency secretariat. He mentioned Ms Naana Arthur and Mr Tawiah as those who had paid their monies. Mr Adjei-Afful said the constituency executives would submit the forms to regional executives of the party in Cape Coast on July 25, for onward transmission to the party national secretariat for vetting on July 31.

He urged the contestants to speed up the processes and submit the forms on time to enable them to beat the deadline. The Chairman said since the date for the collection of the forms expired last month, an embargo has been placed on the campaign for votes, especially to those who had not sent their forms. Mr Adjei-Afful appealed to the citizens of Gomoa District to come home and register when the new voters' register is re-opened in early September 2003.
