Eight armed robbers arrested in Techiman

Techiman, (B/A) July 6, GNA - A combined team of police and military

personnel in the Techiman Municipality has arrested eight suspected armed

robbers in separate operations in the municipality. They are Inusah Laaya, aged 35, leader, Razak Laaya, Seidu Laaya, Giblina Laaya, Adama Laaya and Abdulai Dinga all between the ages of 34 a nd 35. The other two, Mohammed Kilowa and Ahmed Abubakari, also in the same

age range, were arrested at the Techiman O. A. Travel and Tours Station a t about 1000 hours, whilst the six were arrested at dawn at new Krobo, a suburb of Techiman at their hideout. They operations took place on Friday. The Techiman Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Joseph Antwi

Gyawu, who led the operations, told the Ghana News Agency that based upon a tip-off, Kilowa and Abubakar were arrested with two locally manufactured pistols loaded with five live cartridges, as they tried to rob travellers at the station. He explained that at new Krobo, the Police retrieved fake currencies , including, dollars, Naira and Cedis with a foreign manufactured pistol, f rom the six robbers. Superintendent Gyawu said the suspects had been on the Police's want ed list for the past two years for their involvement in robbery cases in the

Techiman Municipality and other neighbouring districts in the region. He said Inusah Laaya, who was involved in another robbery case, pend ing before a High Court, in Sunyani, had been terrorizing traders, especially on the Techiman-Tamale Highway. The Police Commander added that, Inusah was "the brain behind the de ath of a Fulani youth leader, known as Jamjam, at his residence at New Krobo" .. He said there would be an identification parade to enable those who

had suffered in the hands of "the criminals" to go and identify them. Superintendent Gyawu, appealed to traditional leaders to observe peo ple with bad character in their localities and report to the Police, cautioni ng them not to offer such characters land for the construction of houses.
