Eight persons remanded in Custody

Aflao, Dec 23, GNA - Eight persons including a 13-year-old boy who were rounded up in a house in Akatsi for alleged criminal intentions by police have been remanded by the circuit court at Aflao. They are Yao Nukpeta, 19, a carpenter apprentice who has been charged for possessing instruments intended for unlawful entry and Doe Fiagbenya, 22, also a carpenter apprentice, charged with harbouring criminals.

The rest, charged for being on the premises for unlawful purposes are Godsway Kpeli, 13, a school dropout, Kwamivi Borklo, 19, Gardemor Kofi, 18, both Truck Pushers, Ernest Kumi, 18, unemployed, Kodzo Mawuekpor, 18 and Dzikunu Agbe, 18, both Kente Weavers from Agbozume, in the Ketu District.

They all pleaded not guilty and would reappear on January 12, 2005. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Pius Kudjoe told the court that on midnight December 16 the police had a tip-off that some unknown persons had gathered in a house at Akatsi under suspicious circumstances.

He said police swooped on the house, forced the door open and found the eight people in a room.

When a bag belonging to Nukpeta was searched housebreaking instruments including a crowbar, a pinch bar, a wench, a micrometer and a screw gauge were found.
