Eight robbers arrested in Wa

The Upper West regional Police command has arrested eight suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing residents in the region and other areas such as the Northern and Upper East regions.

The suspects who are said to be behind major robberies that have occurred in the area in the past two months were arrested in Wa, Sakalu, Bolgatanga, and Tamale after intelligence was gathered on their hideouts.

They include 3 Ghanaians, 4 Fulanis and two Burkinabes namely; Salifu Seidu (24), Aminu Dauda (28), Joseph Bonseu(42), Dauda Inusah(37), Tofique Lawal(45) and Mohammed Iddi(30) who were said to be involved in robbery cases in Wa and Wa East district.

The others Nabie salifu and Mohammed salia were arrested at Sakalu near Tumu in the Sissala East district after allegedly robbing their victims who were returning from Leo in Burkina Faso.

According to the Upper West regional commander DCOP Okyere Boapeah, Salifu Seidu and his gang were those who robbed a popular guest house in Wa known as Pet Vero on the 15th August, 2017. During that robbery incident, the suspects managed to seize the weapon of the Bole district customs officer who was lodging in the guest house.

The squad is also said to have robbed the private residence of a lecturer at the University for Development Studies making away with his pump action gun and some belongings as well an attack on some traders who were traveling from Wechau in the Wa West district to Kalba in the northern region.

DCOP Boapeah indicated the description given by the victims of the robbery attacks fits the gang hence their arrest.

The Regional Commander disclosed that the two Burkinabes Nabie Salifu and Mohammed Salia who had robbed some traders who were returning from Leo on 7th September this year, and had a day before robbed other victims on the Gwollu-Jafisi road, run out of luck when they run into a team led by the Deputy Regional Police Commander at Sakalu where they were given a chase and subsequently arrested.

Other Arrests

In another development, a gang suspected to be the brain behind numerous motorbike theft cases in the Wa Municipality have been arrested by the police. The three-man gang who stole a motorbike belonging to Abass Nabeng a businessman in Wa were arrested on 1st September 2017.

According to the police, their arrest was made with the help of the CCTV camera at the Main MTN office in Wa.

The Regional Police Commander is, therefore, appealing to the populace to support them with information on suspected criminals in order that their mandate of ensuring the safety of the residents will be achieved.
