Takoradi July 17 (Smith)-GNA-Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Sunday called on Christians to play active part in the fight against corruption in the country. He made the call at the ordination of 17 Reverend Ministers of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Takoradi.

Mr Aidoo said some Churches are afraid of preaching against corruption for fear of losing their members but the Churches have a crucial role to play in the campaign against corruption.

He said corruption is often associated with politicians, civil servants, the Police and other agencies but the practice is widespread in the country.

Mr Aidoo said many people are engaged in the practice and are not honest and sincere in their dealings. He said the country cannot prosper when insincerity and dishonesty is widespread.

Mr. Aidoo also urged Christians to collectively and tirelessly fight terrorism whenever it rears its ugly head.

He said the recent terrorists attacks in London show that there are people who have no value for life and are bent on destroying at the least opportunity.

Mr Aidoo said even in Ghana, there are people who are prone to evil and cannot sleep without committing evil.

The Right Reverend (Dr) Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, who ordained the Ministers, advised them to conduct their lives in accordance with the tenets of the Church.

He said they can only be disrobed when they misconduct themselves and urged them to lead holy lives and to be committed to their work. "You should serve the Lord in humility, honesty and carry his cross because your lives is in his hands".

Right Reverend Frimpong-Manso said the best way a reverend minister could demonstrate his service to the Lord is to be committed to his spouse and family.

He said the people do not want to have a reverend minister who neglects his family and spouse.

Right Reverend Frimpong-Manso said Ghanaians are losing their traditional hospitality that has all the hallmarks of Christian charity. He said Ghanaians used to love and help each, especially during funerals but this is now becoming a thing of the past due to widespread poverty.

Right Frimpong-Manso asked Christians to maintain the culture of hospitality.

Reverend (Dr) Charles Gyang-Duah, Clerk of the General Assembly of the Church said the ordinands were drawn from the Western, Central, West Akyem and Ashanti Kwahu Presbyteries of the Church.

He said the ordinands were commissioned and served their probation two years ago.

Reverend Gyan-Duah said they were recommended for ordination for ministry by the presbyteries. July 17 05
