Eiwulley-Armah family hands over ultramodern educational facility to SEKCO

An ultramodern educational facility named after the late Philip Eiwulley-Armah to serve as a library and an ICT center was handed over to Sekondi College (SEKCO) in the Western region of Ghana.

The center, which was unveiled and commemorated as Philip Eiwulley-Armah Center for Academic Excellence at SEKCO, will also roll out a scholarship scheme for academically outstanding students.

The library was constructed in his memory by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Armah, and his two children, Nicholas Agyevi-Armah and Alexis Selassie Eiwulley-Armah, as a gratitude for the school’s role in his personal and professional growth.

The ceremony, which was held on Friday, January 26, 2024, was attended by Nana Kobina Nketsia V Paramount Chief (Omanhen) of the Essikado Traditional Area in the Western Region; Honorable Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah; Renown Master of Ceremonies, King Kwasi Kyei Darkwa; Dr. Eric Nkansah, Western Regional Director of Education; members of Comprehensive Group 26, C26, who were past students at the Nurses Training College Korle Bu; and other dignitaries.

The Regional Minister, Honorable Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, expressed his sincere appreciation for the family’s bold initiative.

Receiving the keys to the ultramodern multicenter library, the headmistress of SEKCO, Mrs. Guddy Ampomah Kermah, on behalf of the board of governors, management, and staff, expressed her sincere appreciation and promised that the facility would be put to good use. The center hosts an Auditorium, Henry E. Appiah Dattey Student Technology Center, and Jesse Kwabena Sarpong Learning Commons. Reverend Derrick Amoako, the school chaplain, dedicated it.

Speaking at the grand opening, Ms. Margaret Eiwulley-Armah said her late husband was a great educational advocate who dedicated his life to uplifting others. She noted that his legacy can be measured by his humanitarian impact, the love he gave, and the lives he touched. She expressed her gratitude to the benefactors who assisted in making the project come to fruition.

Eiwulley-Armah, also known as Eiwulley Morkeh, was born on August 20, 1965, at Half Assini in the Western Region of Ghana. He had his secondary education at Sekondi College (SEKCO) from 1981 to 1988, where he served as the school’s Senior Prefect in his final year.

The school regimental Band and cultural Troupe entertained the audience with magnificent traditional drumming, dancing, and Patriotic songs.
