The Electoral Commission of Ghana has responded to a video that surfaced online, allegedly showing an act of election malpractice at the Fumesua Pentecost Church polling station during the Ejisu Constituency by-election on April 30, 2024.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows an individual placing an envelope on the table occupied by the presiding officer and the ballot issuer of the polling station.

In a statement released on April 30, 2024, and signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, the Electoral Commission said it has taken notice of the video and has removed the two temporary staff, pending an investigation.

The body emphasised its commitment to integrity, truth, and transparency and assured the public that it would not tolerate any actions undermining its credibility.

It added that a full report on the incident is expected to be released soon.

"The Commission's attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media depicting one of the Polling Stations at the ongoing Ejisu Constituency By-Elections. The Polling Station has been identified as the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station with Polling Station Code F311503.

"The video shows a gentleman approaching the table and dropping an envelope on the table manned by the Presiding Officer and Ballot Issuer. The Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place," the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Ejisu Constituency by-election is still underway, with six contenders vying for the open seat.

These include three independent candidates and representatives from three political parties.

The party-affiliated candidates are Esther Osei of the CPP, Kwabena Boateng of the NPP, and Beatrice Boakye of the LPG.

The race also includes Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, former NPP MP and Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, as an independent candidate alongside Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.
