Sekondi, Oct. 13, GNA - The Sekondi District Police Commander, on Monday said adequate orientation had been given to its personnel to ensure security and peace during the December 7, 2008 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Mr Frank Annin, Sekondi District Police Commander, who announced this at Sekondi, said the onus therefore lay with the leaders of the various political parties and party supporters to strictly observe the Public Order Act during their campaigns to complement the efforts of the Police.

He said personnel of the Police Service had the task to win the confidence and trust of the public and would not put up any negative behaviour to damage its image or reputation. Mr Annin made these remarks when he addressed leaders and representatives of some political parties at a meeting at Sekondi at the weekend.

The meeting was to offer a platform for stakeholders in the upcoming elections to discuss how to conduct their activities in a peaceful manner to avoid violence. Representatives from the Convention Peoples Party, National Democratic Congress, the Peoples National Convention and the New Patriotic Party attended the meeting. Mr. Annin stressed the need for party activists to refrains from insults and vilification.

He said the police would monitor the activities of the keep-fit clubs of the various political parties to ensure that members comport themselves so that they do not become sources of tension in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
