President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the National Democratic Congress will win the 2012 elections without a second round.
Addressing delegates at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during the NDC congress, President Mahama confidently stated that the 2012 elections would be a one-touch victory for the NDC.
In a subtle reply to the NPP's all-die-be-die mantra President Mahama said the December polls won’t be an all-die-be-die affair adding that Ghanaians should be vigilante but not violent during the elections.
“Exercise vigilance and not violence” President Mahama said adding that “this election is not an all-die be die”.
“Be vigilant but not violent. God has granted us his favour. By the grace of God and with God by our side, there will be no second round. It is going to be a one-touch victory. Anytime you see me raise my index figure, it means one-touch”.
President Mahama added that he will do everything within his power to restore the hope and confidence that the members of the party have in the NDC.
He admonished members of the party who have differences to ensure that there is unity ahead of the December polls.
“Prof. Mills has paid the price and his death has opened a new door of opportunity for our great party and I wish to pledge with your mandate as a leader I’ll do everything to open that door of opportunity and re-cement the bounds and opportunity that held us together as NDC”.
President Mahama added that “I noted the resounding cheers you gave to our founder…those cheers send a strong message that the rank and file of our party is not happy with the state of disunity in our party.
"Those resounding cheers send a strong signal that the rank and file of our party has had enough of the schism that we have had. It shows that you want an exorcism of the bad blood and bitterness that has been in our party. I pledge that I will bring back that unity".
President Mahama told delegates that they should not be deceived by the presence of former President Rawlings that all is well with the party adding that his presence is just the beginning of unity for the party.
“The mere presence of our founder here does not mean that the disagreement that has plagued our party are over. We have to work together to change and consolidate that symbolism of him being here to heal the wounds of our party and bring us together.
“His presence here is a mere first step on a long journey towards making the NDC the party that is supposed to be”.
