Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has explained that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections was too much of a blow for the party.

He says the party did not see the kind of defeat they suffered coming to them in the 2024 elections.

Annoh Dompreh noted that the people of Ghana were just angry with the governing NPP at the time and had to punish the political party.

To him, the margin left him in a state of shock because it was unexpected.

“It was a big shock; we never saw it coming. If there is anyone in our party who says this was seen ahead of time well…past questions are always easy. In the aftermath of it, everybody can say anything.

"We were all confident that even if we were going to lose, it is going to be by a thin skin. This was tough; it was too much of a blow for us. I think Ghanaians got angry with us and they punished us for it. We never thought the depth of anger was that deep. Close to about 30,000 people in my stronghold did not turn out to vote, that is why I was struggling,” he said.

“It is a mixed feeling. They are telling us there was hardship, the economy was not in good shape, and when the economy was picking up, we had to go for elections. I believe that I am humbled. Once upon a time, they gave us a difference of 1 million votes, which in recent times, no one has garnered that votes.”
