Election 2024: Richard Gyan-Mensah wins Gomoa West seat for NDC with over 60% of votes

Residents of Gomoa West have praised the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Richard Mensah Gyan, for his decisive win in the recent election.

In the election, Richard Gyan-Mensah received 30,884 votes, representing 61.6% of valid votes cast, compared to his competitor Bismark Baisie Nkum's 19,211 votes, representing 37.90%.

In the 2020 election, Richard Gyan-Mensah secured 53.01% of the votes after defeating former Deputy Communications Minister, Alexander Abban.

During the Presidential election, Richard Gyan-Mensah's intensive campaign efforts led to the NDC Presidential candidate securing his biggest win margin in the area with 29,592 votes.

Some residents who spoke with the media attributed the MP's victory to his continuous engagement with his constituents and notable infrastructural initiatives he has spearheaded in Gomoa West.

"I can't wait to see Richard Gyan-Mensah go back to parliament and continue the good work he has started here," said resident Michael Anyinsah.

"Richard Gyan is God-sent. He is always here with us, helping and listening to us. His advocacy for his constituents, even as an opposition MP, was admirable. I am confident that our development will be fast-tracked now that President Mahama is returning to office," another resident said.

"Richard Gyan-Mensah is a son of the soil. He has a good heart, and God granted him this victory," a resident added.

In October of this year, Richard Gyan-Mensah facilitated the commencement of the construction of a polyclinic for a community within Gomoa West.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has been declared the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election, securing a remarkable return to the nation’s highest office after a fierce contest.

The announcement, made by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, December 9, confirmed Mahama’s victory with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, defeating his primary rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

Mahama’s victory also marked a significant achievement for his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which won a majority in Parliament.

Over 160 seats have already been confirmed for the NDC, including key constituencies traditionally held by the ruling NPP.

Before becoming a Member of Parliament, Richard Gyan-Mensah was the General Manager for Desert Oil Limited and also served as the Head of Finance and Planning with Petrosol Ghana Limited.

Richard Gyan-Mensah currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Budget Committee of Parliament and is a member of the Youth and Sports Committee. He also serves on the Security and Intelligence Committee.

In the 8th Parliament, he previously served on the Environment, Science, and Technology committee.
