The Lens can confirm that many teachers were surprised to find that amounts in the neighbourhood of ?400,000 representing ?87,000 for the month of July to October were added to salaries for the month of November.
The Lens' Information also reveals discussions are far advanced at the level of the Ministry of Finance to splash similar increments on civil servants as part of a last minute effort to lure them to vote for the NPP.
It will be recalled that the ruling NPP some months back announced a public sector wage increases but were soon forced by the IMF to slash it. This measure, unprecedented in the annals of our history has generated widespread anger among a large segment of workers in the country.
This recent Election Bonanza increment is therefore being interpreted by many of the workers as another attempt by the Kufuor regime to insult the intelligence of workers in the country.
Many teachers contacted by the Lens last weekend confirmed the information but quickly added that they are not naive enough to allow this move to deceive them.
