The High Court in Obuasi has dismissed an election petition filed by former Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, and has fined him GH¢60,000 for what it described as time-wasting.

The ruling, delivered on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, by Justice Kwabena Twumasi, followed Hammond’s challenge to the election of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani as Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa.

According to citinewsroom.com report on August 20, 2025, in the 2024 general elections, Hammond, who had represented the constituency for several terms, lost to Dorani by 954 votes.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate secured 14,229 votes against Hammond’s 13,275.

Dissatisfied with the results, Hammond filed a petition at the Obuasi High Court on January 15, 2025, seeking to overturn the outcome.

However, after failing to appear before the court on three consecutive occasions, the judge proceeded to hear the matter and eventually struck it out.

Speaking to journalists after the ruling, Richard Andy, counsel for the incumbent MP, said the decision had vindicated his client.

He added that the judgment would allow Dorani to focus fully on his mandate to serve the people of Adansi Asokwa.
