Elections to be based on truth versus lies

Wa, Oct. 31, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Presidential candidate of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday stated that this year's elections would be based on truth versus deceit.

"People are now clearly awake to compare the government of the NDC in eight years and that of the NPP's (New Patriotic Party) four years. You cannot fool all the people all the times," he stressed. Professor Mills who was addressing a rally to mark the NDC's Upper West regional campaign launch at Wa, said majority of Ghanaians were getting poorer on daily basis while a few NPP elitists were wallowing in riches and "unthinkable pleasures".

The Presidential candidate said the next NDC government would ensure that truth, good governance and transparency prevailed to "erase the corrupt and discriminative NPP government".

"This is the time the truth will prevail over lies and deceit and light will also prevail over darkness and all kinds of malpractices". Professor Mills accused the government of failing to create jobs they promised during the 2000 campaign and gave the assurance that the next NDC government would do better in job creation and provide conditions for a better living standard.

Mr. Alban Bagbin, Minority leader in parliament, said the NPP government since its assumption of power, has not done anything to improve the living conditions of the people.

"Since the NPP took over power in 2001 they have not tarred a single road in the Upper West Region which indicates that it is not the party for the people here".

Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, National Youth Organiser, said the bad economic policies of the NPP government had impoverished Ghanaians to an unbearable level and called on the electorate to vote it out to pave the way for better governance.

"We shall not increase the salaries of workers for one month and decrease it the next month," the Youth organizer added. Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, Mr. Edward Salia, Mrs Alice Boon and Naa Seidu Braimah were among other leading members of the Party who took turns to address the rally.
