Accra, March 18, GNA - The Electoral Ladies of the Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday went on a float through some of the principal streets of Accra to sensitise the general public on the importance of the Voters' Registration Exercise.

The Ladies dressed in yellow T-Shirts wearing baseball caps, went through Accra accompanied by brass band music to draw the attention of city dwellers to the registration exercise.

Dancing to local gospel songs, the Electoral Ladies, who were occasionally joined by other females, especially market women distributed electoral posters and brochures to people along the route. Some the Ladies, who spoke to the GNA after the float, appealed to women to participate in the registration exercise.

They contended that with women forming the majority of the Ghanaian society needed to join hands with their male counterparts to promote the democratic development of the country.

Meanwhile Mr Ebenezer Aggrey-Fynn, a Management Consultant, had been sworn in as the seventh member of the Electoral Commission at a short ceremony at a High Court in Accra

Mr Aggrey-Fynn was the last person to be appointed to make up the full complement of the Commission.

Administering the Oath of Allegiance and Secrecy and the official oath, Mrs Justice Joyce Branford Addo advised the member that he was not to serve the interest of any political party, but the interest of the entire nation.

She urged Office holders to be guided by the virtues of honesty, transparency and integrity in their endeavours, adding: "The slightest error on your part may bring unpleasant consequences on the entire nation."

Mrs Brandford-Addo said Ghana was determined to live under a constitutional rule but "this would depend on the EC." Mr Aggrey-Fynn expressed his appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledge to work hard in the interest of the nation.
