GCPP pledges to unite Nkrumaists

THE Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has decided to play a pioneering role to unite all Nkrumaist parties on the country’s political scene to fight and win the next general elections.

The leader of the GCPP, Mr Dan Lartey who said this in a New Year message, said the party will employ and exploit every circumstance to bring the Nkrumaist parties together to, as he described it, “re-arrange the social and economic order of the country”.“ If even it involves staking our very dear lives to revive the Nkrumaist tradition in the country, we will do it,” he said.

According to Mr Lartey, the electorate have become disillusioned and disappointed with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), both of whom, he said, have woefully failed to address the problems of the economy and alleviate the sufferings of the people.

The GCPP leader said there is so much nostalgic feelings for the days of the CPP which initiated human-centred policies and laid a sound technological foundation for the country.“We have done it before and we can do it again. I am, therefore, appealing to all Nkrumaists, especially those who, as a result of circumstances, find themselves within the NPP and the NDC, to come back home to rebuild the tradition,” Mr Lartey said.

The GCPP leader said with the failure of all unity talks aimed at uniting Nkrumaists, “something radical should be done to re-awaken all Nkrumaists to the fact that the 2004 elections present the best hope for the tradition to win political power to implement policies that endeared the CPP to the broad masses of the people before independence and during the First Republic”.

Mr Lartey said he is in touch with prominent Nkrumaists, both at home and abroad, to find credible ways of reviving the tradition to contest and wrest power from the NPP in the next elections. He appealed to all Nkrumaists not to despair as a result of inaction on the Nkrumaist front, “since this development will be a thing of the past soon”.
