Electorate urged to have open heart and mind on voting day

Winneba (C/R), Nov. 10, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday asked the Ghanaian electorate to have open heart and mind when exercising their franchise on December 7 to elect the right calibre of people to form the next government.

He said: "We should vote with open heart and mind to show the world that Ghana is moving into Positive Change Chapter Two on December 7". President Kufuor said this when addressing the people of Winneba in the Awutu-Efutu-Senya District to round off his three-day tour of the Central Region.

He also addressed durbars of the chiefs and people of the Breman-Asikuma Traditional Area at Breman-Asikuma, Akyeampim Traditional Area at Gomoa Assin and Gomoa Potsin.

President Kufuor said self-confidence of the Ghanaian was being restored under the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and "very soon common sense will prevail over empty talk in the country".

He said elections were held for people to have hope and confidence in their future and to sustain the hope in those elected to govern them. "The electorate should therefore, not vote for people because of their appearance, family or friendly relations or for any monetary gains but for the right calibre of people who can sustain the hope and confidence in the future of the country", he added.

President Kufuor pledged the government's commitment to an accelerated socio-economic growth when give the mandate for a second term in office and called on the people to vote massively for both the presidential and parliamentary candidates of the NPP.

He asked the people to exercise patience and have faith with the government to continue to provide them with the basic necessities of life such as good roads, potable water, better educational and health facilities.

The chiefs commended the government for improvement in their living standard and the peace and tranquillity prevailing in the country. They called for a peaceful, free and fair election to maintain the peace and urged politicians to undertake campaign devoid of insults and attacks on personalities. 10 Nov. 04
