Accra, Oct. 4, GNA - A 20-year- old Electrician, who was in possession of assorted forged documents of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), on Monday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra. Mohammed Osman charged with possessing forged documents pleaded not guilty. The Court admitted him to 20 million cedis bail with a surety to reappear on October 18.
The case as presented by Prosecuting Chief Inspector Benedicta was that the complainants were Staff of ECG, Legon branch under Accra East. The accused person is electrician but unemployed. Prosecution said for some time now, people had been posing as workers of ECG and they armed themselves with forged documents from the Company to defraud the public.
On September 22, at about 1330 hours, the complainants were on their routine disconnection exercise at Kpehe, in Accra when they saw Osman dressed like an ECG Meter Reading Staff. The complainants questioned Osman and asked him to produce his Identity Card but he could not do so.
Prosecution said when Osman was searched, six photocopies of ECG Demand Form and six copies of Debt Reminder/Disconnection Notice Form, which had been forged, were found. Fifteen copies of ECG Maps, Control Report form and Customers bill for August were also found in Osman's file. They arrested Osman and handed over to the Police.
