An electrician, Kofi Aidoo who sexually abused a 13- year- old daughter of his co-tenant over a period of six months was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour.
The Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Ms Audrey Kocuvi-Tey, convicted Aidoo, 38, on his own plea.
Before the judgement Aidoo implored the court to forgive him, adding it was not his intention to commit such an offence.
But the court said society abhors the offence and as such punishment should be given to serve as a deterrent to others though he is a first offender.
Presenting, Police Chief Inspector Charles Hevi told the court that the complainant, the mother of the victim lives at Antem, a suburb of Cape coast in the same house with Aidoo.
He said on Friday April 8 at about 9:20 hours, the complainant returned from a funeral to realise her daughter was not in their room.
He said the mother questioned the victim's younger sister and she disclosed that she was in Aidoo's room and when the mother questioned her, what she was doing in Aidoo's room she said she went there to collect GH¢5.00 from him.
Upon interrogations she confessed that Aidoo has had several sexual intercourse with her and could not remember the number of times but on the said day, Aidoo did not have sex with her
A report was made at the Cape Coast Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit.
A police medical report form was issued for the victim to be sent to hospital for examination where it was confirmed that the she has been defiled.
Chief Inspector Hevi said Police investigations revealed that Aidoo started having an affair with the victim from November 2015 to April 2016 with the promise to marry her.
