Electrification Project Commissioned At Praaso

A ?1.3 billion electrification project has been commissioned at Praaso in the Ashanti Akim North district by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu.

Speaking at the commissioning last week, Hon. Baah-Wiredu expressed deep regret about the death of one Mr. Kwasi Appiah, who died at Praaso, when the community started their first communal labour on the electrification project.

Appiah was severely injured during the communal labour and he died later at the hospital.

Baah-Wiredu advised the people of Praaso to use the electricity wisely in order to avoid fire outbreaks.

He asked them to desist from overloading their electrical gadgets in order not to create fire outbreaks to destroy more properties in the town.

He noted that this electricity project has opened more chances for those who want to invest in any project at Praaso.

The minister explained government's policies to the people of the area and urged them to cooperate with the government so that it can support them to live better lives.

He said Cocobod has pledged to provide ?8.9 billion to a Road Fund for the repair of some feeder roads in cocoa growing areas of the country.

He assured the cocoa farmers that government has instituted a new mechanism to get special fertilizer which will assist them to yield high producitivity.

The regent of Praaso, Nana Kwame Aniponfi II commended Baah-Wiredu for his good works and appealed to him to provide an additional transformer to serve as stand-by in case of emergency.

Nana Aniponfi appealed to the government to tar the road from Konongo to Praaso to enhance smooth transportation of goods and services.

The regent stressed the need for the government to motivate the people of Praaso to work harder to support government's development programmes of the nation.

The DCE for Asante Akim North, Mr. George Frimpong, stated that this is the time every town or village need to give streets in between the buildings so that they can name all the streets to make easy identification of every suburb.

He advised the people of Praaso not to allow their children to take advantages of the electricity in the town and go to video shows and dancing competition and ignore their books.

He urged the parents to encourage their children to take their books seriously because they are the future leaders.

The assemblyman of the town, Mr. Daniel K. Effa, appealed to Hon. Baah-Wiredu to assist them to get accommodation for health staff in the town.

He appealed to the government to provide them with a medical doctor to man their clinic.

Effa advised the community to pay their taxes to support the district assembly to get more money for development in the rural areas.

He urged them to desist from indiscriminate bushfire in the area in order to protect their cocoa farms.
