Electronic Association establishes centre for apprentices

Techiman (B/A) Jan. 4, GNA - Techiman Municipal branch of Ghana Electronic Servicing Technician Association (GESTA) is to establish a modern training centre for apprentices. The centre, estimated at more than 600 million cedis would be financed through funds from NGOs and contributions from members of the association.

Mr. Dickson Kofi Fosu, Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the association announced at a get-together of its members at Techiman.

He emphasized that in view of the new technological advancement, the youth had to be well trained in both the profession and moral and character building.

Mr. Fosu, who is also Chairman of Techiman Municipal Civic Union of the Government Accountability and Improve Trust (GAIT) II programme, called on traditional authorities and the Municipal Assembly to assist in allocating a plot of land and financial support for the centre. He said Techiman and Berekum in Brong Ahafo were among 25 civic unions in the country that had benefited from the GAIT programme, adding GAIT 11 programme in Techiman would focus on education, health and environment.

Mr. Joseph Hanson Adu, Chairman of Techiman branch of the association advised members to be truthful at their workplaces and to work harder to help raise the image of the association.

He asked members to educate their colleagues about the vision, programmes and aspirations of the association.

The chairman urged members to expose criminals who would bring in stolen items for repairs to the Police and admonished them to register serial numbers and models of items for repairs on their job cards. Mr. Solomon Mensah Aborampah, Technical Assistant of GAIT II programme in Ashanti Akyem North District, said it was imperative for member societies to embark on generating their own income. Mr. Oliver Yeboah Asuamah, Techiman Municipal Secretary of CU, commended the association for its tremendous performance with regards to regular attendance at meetings and asked others to join the association so they could benefit from assistance by GAIT, GESTA and CU. Mr. Paul Kofi Adu, Secretary of the GESTA noted that the 35 active members of the association in Techiman had lived up to expectation and appealed to the members and customers to be become abreast with modern technology in the electronic industry.

He reiterated the need for members to honour their tax obligations to enable the government and the Assembly to provide them with social amenities for accelerated development.
