Events point to a rift between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western region over the sudden death of a first year student of Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTECH) during in a gory motor accident last Saturday night at Kikam. The deceased, Emmanuel Obeng Asante, is believed to have met his untimely death when returning from a meeting purported to have been organised by the NPP in the constituency.

Emmanuel Asante, in an attempt to jump from the bucket of a Takoradi bound tipper-truck he had boarded with some colleagues of his, smashed his head on the ground, killing him instantly.

This event led to, Mr. Nuomah,a staunch member of the NDC in the Constituency, last Sunday allege on Ankobra FM, an Axim based radio station, that the death of the innocent first year student was orchestrated by the Ellembelle branch of the NPP for their rituals in order to garner more votes during the December Parliamentary polls.

Mr. Nuomah again added that the NPP in its quest to register aliens in the ongoing biometric voter’s registration in Ellembelle secretly masterminded and organised the meeting which the deceased happened to have participated on the campus of Essiama Secondary Technical School. He further alleged that the NPP parliamentary hopeful for the Ellembelle constituency, Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh, and his team were behind the boy’s death for reasons best known to them.

On his part, Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh, in an interview, rubbished the allegations against him, saying it was just a ploy to dent his hard earned reputation as a candidate of integrity and asked for it to be treated with utmost contempt. He added that he has never engaged or attempted to organise a meeting with any group which the victim happened to be involved.

“I wish to state categorically, that I have no hand in the innocent boy’s death and dare any one to come out to prove to the entire people that, I was the one who organised the said meeting,” he added. He chastised Ankobra FM and its host Kobena Sekyi Amofa, also popularly known as ‘Don Dada’ for being irresponsible and bias by refusing to call the panel member to order when he made those “frivolous allegations” and tasked the station to do a better job next time when issues of such nature emerges.

He assured the people of Ellembelle of his commitment and dedication to ensure that Ellembelle becomes a better place to be, if given the nod to serve as the MP.

Meanwhile, sources close to the deceased’s school whispered to this reporter that, authorities have so far remained silent over the incident since the deceased was a day student and would not have enough proof to comment on. This reporter gathered that the body of the student has been deposited at the Eikwe Hospital Morgue for autopsy to ascertain the circumstances that led to his death whiles the police proceed with investigations into the matter.

A close friend of the deceased however told this reporter that his friend did not go for any meeting as purported but rather went for an evening entertainment program on the Essiama SECTECH campus.
