Embargo placed on Head teacher's salary

The Sekyere West District Directorate of Education has placed an embargo on the March salary of Mr Adomako Sekyere, Head teacher of the Birem Junior Secondary School for failing to fill the continuous assessment forms of the only three candidates the school registered for the forthcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr Akwasi Addae, officer in-charge of external examination at the District Education Office, who disclosed this to the GNA said the punishment could result in his demotion.

Giving reason for the sanction, Mr Addae said the Head teacher failed to submit the continuous assessment of the pupils, which were wrongly filled on time.

He said this led to the late submission of the whole district's assessment forms, which were nearly rejected by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

He said the punishment was expected to serve as a warning to non-performing head teachers.

Mr Adomako Sekyere who admitted his error, pleaded for leniency.

He explained that the late submission of the forms was due to the fact that his predecessor who filled the forms travelled and so he was forced to wait for his return before they could be completed.

Mr Sekyere therefore promised to live up to his professional expectation if he were pardoned.

However, Mr Addae said, he could not be pardoned since all head teachers in the district were given enough training on the filling of the continuous assessment forms, pointing out that the forms were accompanied by instructions relating to their filling and could therefore not understand why Mr Sekyere could not fill them.
