Embark on house-to-house campaign - NPP Supporters urged

Agona Nyakrom (C/R), Sept 27, GNA - Mr Samuel Obodai, MP for Agona West, has called on supporters of the NPP to embark on house-to-house campaign to enable the party to win massively in the December 2004 polls.

He said the task ahead of them was enormous, which called for an effective campaign strategy to defeat the NDC again.

Mr Obodai was speaking after the election of new polling stations executives of the party at Agona Nyakrom, on Sunday. The elected officers are Mr Frank Owuaba, Chairman, Mr N.K Buabeng, Vice Chairman, Mr James Appiah Secretary, Mr Charles Osei Aboagye, Assistant Secretary and Mr Appiah Ashmond, Organiser.

The other executives are Mr Frank Boampong, Youth Organiser, Ms Victoria Arhin, Women's Organiser and Ms Gladys Cudjoe, Assistant Women's Organiser and Mr Hamza Ishmaila, Treasurer.

He said the NPP had to win convincingly in the area in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, adding that, this could be achieved through their hard work and dedication.

The MP who is the candidate of the NPP in the parliamentary election said this was important since the President would need a strong parliamentary backing to enable him to continue with his pragmatic programmes to improve the socio-economic well being of Ghanaians.

He said "Don't vote 'skirt and blouse' for one or the other reason. Mr Obodai called on the electorate to reject the NDC since it had nothing to offer Ghanaians, saying, "At the time the NDC government was in power they did not do any thing in this area with their share of the Common Fund and other opportunities, which came their way".

He called for unity and peace among the rank and file of the NPP in the area to win over the floating votes for the party. The MP welcomed some former NDC members from both Agona Swedru and Nyakrom who had defected to NPP.

Mr Henry Appoh-Baiden, Special Assistant to the MP, urged the electorate to reject Mr Paul Kofi Tawiah, an NPP member who is contesting as an Independent after losing the primary, saying, "He has declared his intention to split the votes to pave way for the NDC candidate".

He said his action had shown that he wanted to satisfy his personal ambition and not to serve the community and the party, saying, "It is God who makes leaders and rulers and not mere ambition".
