The emergency response number dedicated to attending to cases relating to the coronavirus has been bit with prank calls totalling 1, 902, 926.
A statement issued by the Communications Ministry bemoaned the inability of genuine emergency cases from reaching the call line.
The period the statement said is between January and March 16, 2020.
The figure represents 95% of the call traffic. Of this number, 1, 887, 125 were prank related calls with only 15,801 being real emergency related calls.
"That meant, 99.16% of cases within that period were prank calls,” the statement added.
Per measures to resolve the problem, the Ministry has revealed all prank callers will be blocked to get Ghana’s emergency system to work effectively.
