Accra, Nov. 6, GNA - Mr Joseph Mantey, National Coordinator at the National Youth Council on Saturday repeated the call on the youth to play a key role in the country's governance mechanisms to ensure the development of their potentials.

He said the empowerment of young people would enable them to be dynamic and productive members of society, making them predicated on the existence of democratic structures and processes. Mr Mantey was speaking on the topic: "The Importance of the Youth in the Formulation of Policies in Ghana" at a National debate organized by Club Vision Ghana, an NGO.

The aim of the debate was to enable the youth bring out their understanding of who a youth is?

Some 15 schools presented their definition for who a youth is at the forum.

Mr Mantey said the culture of involving the youth in policy formulation was not well developed in the country because various forms of conflicts caused by social, economic, political and environmental factors had created barriers for the empowerment of young people. He said it would therefore be reasonable that the youth were involved in policy formulation to allow them prescribe solutions to their own problems.
