The Bank account created for the transaction involving the sale of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation’s drill ship in 2001 has been traced but found empty.
The acting Head of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, Grace Adzroe, who appeared before the Judgment Debt Commission Wednesday, made the disclosure.
She was invited to help the Commission unravel the account that was set up to deal with the sale of the Discoverer 511 for US$24 million to defray a supposed US$19.5m judgment debt awarded French Bank Societe Generale by a court against the GNPC.
About US$1million of the drillship’s proceeds was used to pay for legal services concerning the sale.
However, US$3.5 million is yet to be traced.
The missing amount has created a row between the current government and former government officials who served in the Kufuor administration.
The last 1,008 pounds of the money in the account was transferred in December 2005 into a separate account at the same Ghana International Bank, London.
