Enchi (W/R), July 4, An orientation course aimed at educating the participants on the objectives of the community water and sanitation programme of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC), has been held at Enchi in the Aowin-Suaman District, Under the programme, basic community water supply facilities, low cost household places of convenience and community-based hygiene education for rural communities and institutions will be provided. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Solomon Appiah, Presiding Member of Aowin-Suaman District Assembly, on behalf of the Acting District Chief Executive, Mr. S. P. Adamu stressed the importance of water and sanitation to life. He said the district with a population of over 75,000 lacks good drinking water and proper sanitation facilities. The Presiding Member said because majority of the people rely on rivers and streams, water-borne diseases like bilharzia, cholera and guineaworm are prevalent in the area.
