Mr John Peter Amewu, Minister of Energy and Petroleum has donated a Mitsubishi pickup vehicle to the Hohoe Municipal Directorate of Education at a brief ceremony in Hohoe.
He said the gesture was his contribution towards the provision of quality education in the Hohoe Constituency, targeted at broadening the scope for monitoring and supervision in all circuits of the area.
The Minister said education was the engine of growth for development and nation building, which underpinned the factor for his benevolence.
Mr Amewu urged all stakeholders to play their roles responsibly towards achieving local and national targets in education.
Mrs Gladys Emefah Amenyah, Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, receiving the vehicle, thanked Mr Amewu for the gesture, saying that, half of the Directorate's challenges, which was transport, had been settled.
She said the donation was timely, as the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) had commenced and would fast-track monitoring and supervision of the examination and others.
A total of 1,820 BECE candidates will write the weeklong examination in the Hohoe Municipality.
Mr Amewu, earlier sponsored the training of all candidates in the Hohoe Constituency for a two-day Science Practical Lessons and Examination Summit for the students to get to know the nuances for a successful BECE.
He also donated Mathematical sets to all the candidates and promised to roll sponsorship packages to students who would excel in the examinations.
