The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has inaugurated the new Board of Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG), tasking members to fast-track the country’s long-held ambition of adding nuclear energy to its power mix.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister highlighted Ghana’s decades-long pursuit of nuclear power, an aspiration dating back to the era of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Despite years of technical groundwork, the minister noted that the goal of integrating nuclear energy into national electricity generation remains unfulfilled.

Jinapor stressed that global trends demonstrate the importance of stable, affordable base-load power for sustained economic growth, emphasising that nuclear energy continues to stand out as one of the most dependable options.

He urged the newly sworn-in Board to “break new ground, accelerate progress, and deliver on the long-standing objective of adding nuclear power to our national energy mix.”

The newly constituted Board of Nuclear Power Ghana includes:

1. Emmanuel Appiah-Korang, Chairman

2. Ing. Samuel Boakye Dampare

3. Ing. Edward Obeng-Kenzo

4. Bernard Kofi Ellis

5. Benedict Kofi Wompeh

6. Nana Akyaa Amoah-Amissah
