The Energy Ministry has stated that it will dismiss anyone found in the power generation, transmission and distribution chain to have been at fault in the recent nationwide blackout which plunged the entire country into total darkness.
The blackout that occurred on Wednesday evening was the second in less than three months.
The Public Relations Officer of the Energy Ministry, Edward Bawa in an interview with XYZ News said the ministry is doing its independent investigation into the blackouts.
Mr. Edward Bawa warned that the axe will fall on whoever is found to have been negligent in the line of duty.
Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana, GRIDCo and the Volta River Authority (VRA) have not been able to give a concrete explanation for Wednesday’s nationwide blackout.
The various institutions say they are now launching investigations into the incident to ascertain the actual cause of the blackout.
ECG’s head of operations told Breakfast XYZ that the cause of the blackout cannot be immediately known but the company is doing everything possible to ensure that the country does not experience such an occurrence.
The head of Public Relations of GRIDco, Albert Quainoo, also stated that they cannot immediately determine what led to the power outage which lasted for several hours.
PRO for VRA, Gertrude Koomson however attempted explaining the cause saying it was a system over load. She added that efforts are being made to avert any future occurrence.
“I don’t know whose fault it is…I think it is a shared responsibility but the GRIDco is supposed to know when the system is overloading to alert the ECG”.
