Enforce Ghana’s narcotics laws - NACOB Founding Executive Secretary urges

Founding Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board, Kofi Bentum Quantson is calling for the enforcement of Ghana’s narcotics laws.

“We need to holistically enforce the laws. There are three components of the law and for the enforcement to be efficient, all three must be looked at,” he said.

Ghana was recently rated 14 among 115 countries in the United Nations (UN) drugs and crime index. The index measures the use of drugs and the ease of transiting drugs through a country.

African and Middle Eastern nations typically reported the lowest use of drugs. Ghana was the only African country on the list.

This, many Ghanaians described as worrying saying it may create a bad image for the country on the international scene.

Kofi Bentum Quantson is unhappy with Ghana’s lack of progress in dealing with narcotics.

He blamed the endemic corruption in the country for the ease of transiting narcotics through the country.

The former National Security Coordinator, Kofi Bentum Quantson, is therefore calling for an enforcement of the triumvirate approach developed by the Narcotics Control Board.

“You cannot eradicate the drug business because it is a big venture and many powerful individuals are involved in the trade globally. What we can do is to minimize the effect and reduce our country from being ranked as a cocaine coast.” He added.
